Summary Report of KIMAP Intensive Lecture by Prof. Schabert

From September 9th to 19th (15 lectures in total), Prof. Andreas SCHABERT of the University of Cologne gave an KIMAP intensive lecture titled “Monetary Policy and Financial Frictions” at the Graduate School of Economics.  The lecture series began with a discussion of how the financial sector can be modeled in a dynamic general equilibrium (DSGE) model, how the spread between lending rates and interbank rates are affected when there is information asymmetry between lenders and borrowers in financial markets, and what restrictions are placed on the amount of lending.  The lecture also covered topics on the optimal monetary policy and prudential policy under such an economic environment.  Although the content of the lecture was very advanced, four graduate students and three undergraduate students attended the lecture.  In addition to the lectures, several graduate students met with him after the class to explain their research plans and received his research guidance and advice.
